“The poor are always with you”

"The poor are always with you"

On November 14, 2021, the Fifth World Day of the Poor will be celebrated under the slogan “The poor are always with you”.

In his message of June 14, 2021, Pope Francis writes – “When believers want to see Jesus personally, to touch Him with their hand, they know where to turn: it is the poor who are the sacrament of Christ, they represent His person and refer to Him.”

Jesus’ activity indicates that poverty is not fatal, but “a concrete sign of His presence between us.” Let us find and recognize Him in the lives of the poor, who are “real evangelists, because they were the first evangelized and called to share the blessedness of the Lord and His kingdom.” “The beggars in every position and at every latitude evangelize us, because they always allow us to discover in a new way the most original features of the heavenly Father,” we read in the message.

Pope Francis expressed the hope that World Poor Day, which will be celebrated for the fifth time, “will increasingly take root in our local Churches”, opening up to the “evangelistic movement” that welcomes the poor where they are.
